SELECTION
PROCESS | Our
annual event honors coaches from the greater New York metropolitan area. Our recipients
are selected by a panel of respected journalists with experience covering high
school sports. Any
varsity head coach from any sport is eligible. Weight will be given to years of
experience and to success on the field of play, but wins and losses are not what
the Frank McGuire Award is about. The
most important criteria for the award are how well the coach upholds what high
school sports can be at their best: a teaching tool for young women and men, a
bastion of fair and dignified competition, a source of physical fitness and discipline,
and an unmatched way to build lasting friendships as well as have fun. Proceeds
are used to fund student athletic programs at schools where the honorees have
coached or are presently coaching.
The Foundation is proud to initiate the 1st Annual Mike Pressler Award in honor of Coach Pressler’s commitment to his team during the 2006 season at Duke University when he demonstrated unshakable character and courage. Coach Pressler will present this award to individuals who have overcome adversity and social pressures in support of truth and the integrity of their team.
